Random thoughts on life in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China

Liuzhou S.W.A.T.

I’m a bit nervous to post this. If they don’t like it, they have the force to take me out.

Liuzhou police have released a number of over-the-top propaganda images of their crack S.W.A.T (Special Weapons and Tactics) team – given the Hollywood treatment.

These images all contain the atrocious “English” slogan, “Suffered We  Protect They”, whatever that means. Update: See here for some tentative explanations.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Speaks volumes for the mentality . Oh , and I guess their mental age too . Well done to the government and various media for encouraging such infantile and overdramatic fervour.

Are the police carrying firearms more frequently ? Scary thought .

Not that I can see. They are just propagandising more.

Childish and a waste of public money but safer for all concerned . Let’s hope that the ‘team’ , if it exists , is rather more mature !

I don’t know if you follow the news very closely in the US…But the military is ‘Donating’ all sorts of equipment to local police departments.
Including an Armored Personell Carrier to a town of less than 15,000 citizens very near where I live. It might come in handy in case someone runs a red light and must be subdued by 15 or so assault troops armed with with M-16s.
The truth is that our ill-advised wars are winding down and the government must make room for the tons of weapons that are already in the pipeline. The contractors must be paid. The alternative would be to give the extra armament to our allies in less developed nations. But it seems our allies in less developed nations are in short supply these days!
    Things are tough allover!

It is no coincidence that the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the United States – are also the world’s biggest arms suppliers.

  6. Carl Johnson Says:

Silly me! I just noticed those are not Kalishnikovs in the photos? Look a lot like the M-4 carbines US troops carry?

  7. Paul Says:

great posters, should be for a movie, are the regular Liuzhou constabulary that handsome.
