Beware of Beards

These crude, racist anti-terrorism posters have appeared in town. They show stereotypical images of wild-eyed, bushy-bearded males in the role of the terrorists – as they all surely are. There have never been any clean-shaven terrorists or female terrorists. And of course, they are too stupid to think of disguising themselves as non-terrorists by having a shave.

While there have been a number of horrific terrorist incidents recently, this is just stupid, nasty scare-mongering, and sadly typical of the idiotic double thinking of the party. Xinjiang people are most definitely Chinese, they insist, while simultaneously demonising all of the ethnic minorities as terrorists.

More of these posters here.

Talking of racism, I can’t even begin to understand this. It is an image being used to sell mosquito coils and repellents etc. WTF?

Beats me

As found yesterday in Zhongbai Hualian Supermarket on Beizhan Lu.

This blog has been picked up by the BBC and covered here. (They did ask for permission to use the photos.)

It has also been covered by Dubai based Al Arabiya News who didn’t ask permission and didn’t link to the blog but labelled the images as “courtesy of”. Since when did “courtesy of” mean “stolen from’? Isn’t it odd that they think I had the courtesy to give them permission to use the images, but they didn’t have the courtesy to ask. Assholes.

Their text is also mostly stolen from the BBC report except for the bits they wrote themselves and got totally wrong. The first paragraph is a joke.

Two posters in downtown Liuzhou have turned into “All across southern China posters have been seen all over the cities warning its residence (sic) against helping bearded men”

I am returning their courtesy by not linking to them.

Yea, gotta love the sites that scrape your content without a link back. Has happened to me a lot in the past – at least the legitimate new sources (the ones whose links matter most) asked your permission.

    Congrats either way.
