One More Cup of Coffee

Well, that’s it.

Liuzhou can now proudly hold its head up in polite society and boast that it has truly joined the 21st 20th century.

Yesterday, in a blaze of no publicity, only a week short of two months behind schedule, Starbucks finally opened its hallowed doors in the Dragon City.

They have even paid respect to the local culture by opening before they finish building the place. Today, there were boxes of light bulbs and other fittings blocking the entrance and ladders and building equipment everywhere. But they were selling coffee – take away only, so far as I could see. They are still building the seating areas.

Is that a ladder I see before me?

The outlet is at the front of the new BBG (步步高) mall on the north side of Liuzhou People’s Square. I prefer this place.

A few years ago a Lady friend (who is no longer around) talked me into going to a Starbucks. She ordered me some sort of sweet, sticky concoction that I did not recognize as coffee!
I drink a coffee blended with chicory and made by an old family concern in Baton Rouge LA.
    Black and strong, Thank you!
I used to have it shipped to me, but now it is available locally.
If I do finally settle in Liuzhou, I suppose I’ll have it shipped to me again.
    Starbucks, My Ass!!

I will be in Liuzhou in a few weeks. I’m looking forward to visiting the Starbucks. I am also hoping to find some English speaking expats, if there are any. I’m from Denver, Colorado USA. I’ll be in Liuzhou for about a month.

    How sad.
