Definitely Robbery

Suspect Luo Haomin

Suspect Luo Haomin

Liuzhou police have held a press conference to state that the murder of planning bureau chief He Bin was carried out in what was “definitely robbery.”

They are trying to convince those who feel there must be more to it than that. “Do housebreakers and thieves usually carry home made bombs?” is the question being asked on local chatboards and other forums.

The head of publicity for Liuzhou Public Security Bureau identified the suspect as 49 year-old ex-soldier Luo Haomin (罗浩敏) and said that he carried out the attempted robbery in an effort to raise funds to pay off a 60,000元 gambling debt.

When Luo attempted to rob He Bin using a toy gun he met strong resistance and in the resulting struggle stabbed He and set off his home made bomb.

Whether this statement is enough to stop the suspicion that the murder is somehow connected to corruption seems unlikely. The level of trust is so low as to be non-existent.
