Liuzhou City Planner Murder – Updated

He Bin

He Bin

Let me state for the record that I am deeply unconvinced by many of the planning decisions made by Liuzhou government over the last 10 years. However, I don’ t let myself get too upset. There is nothing I can do about it.

However, it seems someone may have had a different idea. He Bin, 51 year-old  Director General of Liuzhou urban planning bureau has been killed and his wife injured in an explosion at their Liuzhou home on Thursday.

The explosion would appear not to be a gas leak or accident. A man, named only as Luo, has been arrested for setting off the explosion during what has officially been described as a robbery attempt gone badly wrong. It seems Mr He was also stabbed in the chest, abdomen and back. A toy gun and a knife were found at the scene.

Liuzhou ‘netizens’ are less sure and have been confidently tweeting that Mr He was targeted because of some corruption scandal.  Remarks such as “Kill all the officials. Believe me, none of them are innocent” and “”Good job. Why not kill the head of the housing bureau as well?” have been posted before being removed.

However, one weibo (Chinese twitter) user did say “Don’t jump to conclusions too soon; we have nothing to prove the official was corrupt.”
