The Germans are Coming!

I can hardly keep up! It is so exciting.

Now, as part of the festivities, we are being offered the once in a life time chance to be German! No. not in a Basil Fawlty don’t mention the war way, although I suggest you don’t mention the war.

It seems that we are to be allowed to get pissed (in the UK sense), throw up and generally fall over in the approved German manner at the  “China-Germany Beer and Rock Music Season” event to be held in Liuzhou Residents’ Square (市民广场), which is the one in front of the new government building, next to the Radisson hotel, from September 29th to October 5th.

Tickets are priced at ¥120 for one day and ¥300 for three days and are available at ticket stalls around town – there is one outside Wuxing Department store diagonally opposite McDonalds.

Not content with declaring  that last year’s water carnival rivalled Rio’s (which it only did to the extent that it was called a Carnival; it was a damp squid compared to an explosion), now they are claiming that the beer event will be an affiliated offshoot of the Munich Beer Festival. In their drunken dreams.

Anyway we are offered “dark German beers, European farm-style competitive games and authentic German customs.”  Oh, and the shitty band will be playing.

I’ve heard about those farm-style games and it ain’t pretty. And I’m not even going to go down the road of thinking about authentic German customs, but get the leather pants out, perverts.

There is a website here (all in Chinese)

Just on time and slightly missing the point, Lianhua Century Mart has just stocked up on Spanish beer! Spanish beer? WTF?

Well, I may be coming also, but this news reaffirms my thought that it might be a good idea to travel only after the holidays. However, unfortunately nobody can prevent certain people to stage such Cartoon events all over Asia. One should go and take a glimpse if one wants an impression of what is exactly NOT German(y).
Anyway, do you have any idea what happened to the fake clone of the ‘Paulaner Brauhaus’ chain that once existed in Liuzhou? At least the beer was real with no gimmicks apart from the pricing.

  2. Liuzhou Laowai Says:

Er. nothing happened to Paulaner. Still there.

  3. Ray Says:

I found another Paulaner near the Raddison, that means my tour now includes 3 in Liuzhou, and haven’t even tried to do a tour !!

  4. Ray Says:

Hullo Ken is this the square opposite the Radisson or where the old NanCheng Supermarket was ?

  5. Liuzhou Laowai Says:

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. It’s the square beside the Radisson, in front of the new government building. I am amending the article to clarify.
