Fake Fakes

I usually have a quick look at the BBC news site’s daily round up of news photos. Not every day but most.

Today, Liuzhou turned up.

It is a picture of the local constabulary incinerating supposedly confiscated “fake” cigarettes. This is something they do every now and again as a propaganda stunt. Sometimes cigarettes, sometimes other stuff.

Fake fakes

Then the Los Angeles Times also featured a different photograph of the same event.

In the meantime, the  shops are still full of real fakes. Everything from Iphones to pigeon eggs.

When the state-owned Xinhua bookstores stop selling pirated CDs, I might start taking China’s anti-piracy efforts more seriously. No hurry involved.
