Random thoughts on life in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China

Bridge to Nowhere

The local rag has published pictures of a bridge. Liuzhou is full of bridges – some real, others not. This one is supposedly a “replica” of the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinatti.

Bridge 2

I’m not sure that Mr. Roebling who designed the real one would recognise this one. Here is his original.

Real Bridge

The fake bridge is part of a special Cin-Liu Friendship Garden in Liuzhou’s Longtan Park. The garden will be formally opened in November to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the twin sistership of Cincinatti and Liuzhou. It is, however, open now.

This is not the first fake bridge in Longtan Park. There is a miserable copy of Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge in Sanjiang. Ignore it and go to see the beautiful original.

Liuzhou is also ‘twinned’ with Muntinlupa in the Philippines and Passau, Germany.
