Liuzhou Laowai

Random thoughts on life in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China

Liuzhou is very much a city built around a river, so it is with sympathy and concern that I sit reading reports from Harbin.

But what is this?
"Families were reported to be stocking up on water by filling bathtubs and buckets.." (The Guardian)

One of many similar comments I have read.

Bathtubs? Bathtubs? I have been in many a Chinese family's home over the past decade and the number which had bathtubs was precisely zero. (I, being a decadent westerner, have a bathtub, but no plug for the plughole!)

It may be different up in the frozen wastes of Heilongjiang, but I doubt it.
